Mold issues with Airbnb rentals in Asheville, NC

  Just looking at the listing it would be impossible that a building that old in Asheville wouldn't have mold. Sorry you had that experience

  We live in Asheville and unfortunately mold is very common here. There’s only one place I recommend in the area.

  If I had a dollar for every single Airbnb host that has told me their place is mold free and we show up to the moldiest dump… safe to say we don’t use Airbnb anymore. The important tip is to get the owner to agree in a message that if you have issues they’ll refund you so you don’t have to endure a shitty house.

  So sorry to hear that. Ashville was flooded big time. Probably very challenging to find a safe place there.

  Considering they use fans for A/C, I bet they have humidity driven growth in the home. I do mold inspections in Asheville. There aren’t very many low mold environments.

  A lot of Asheville got wrecked by hurricane Helene so I avoid that area - I’ve definitely had air bnb hosts flat out lie to me like that as well. The detox you’re mentioning is valid - I’ve smelled that gross mustiness after leaving the environment on me / in my sweat and hair. There’s a cheap body wash called Defense that people use to get rid of actino bacteria which is what produces that smell we think is mold (the two go hand in hand in WDBs) it’s helped - you can get it on Amazon

  This is the one in Weaverville that we were staying in after we suspected our house in near there had mold and this place made my beginning mild mold symptoms get way worse. I booked for 10 nights and was only able to stay 3 with no refund. I let the owner know and then saw it up for sale about a month later.   There is more mold here in Asheville than I ever knew was possible. We moved here more than 20 years ago from another town in North Carolina where I never dealt with mold. It's much worse since Helene too but for various reasons it's always been a very serious problem in this part of North Carolina. Thanks to one particularly bad rental about 10 years back my health has never quite been the same.
