I have found N95s to be quite effective.

I don’t know about masks but I was just at that airport and it was definitely still moldy

There’s many great places to travel. There’s zero chance I would go somewhere I had a bad flare unless no other options. And with my son absolutely go somewhere else. This stuff is dangerous.

COVID is still a pandemic disabling and killing people every day. n95 masks work wonders to prevent infection, and they absolutely help with environmental triggers. it's most definitely worth masking up while traveling!

Masks help SO much!!! Definitely get good quality masks, like N95 or KN95 and make sure they fit well and are comfortable. You may need to try a couple different ones.

Hi! Masks absolutely help me but it has to be the right one and I have to be in a decent state otherwise. If it's a rough airport, I change it often and change masks again once I get on the plane (and if flying through a high allergy area I will do a final mask change once we hit the second ding because the internal air circulation is on with filtration.) I like well before kn95. They make kid size too, my daughter doesn't mind them. I got through the Denver airport successfully with this approach. Last time, I didn't change my mask until we got to 10k ft and it took me out. Orlando is another example. I don't hang around when we land in Orlando. I book it outside and ask someone else or airport staff to help gather luggage. Returning is more difficult, but you can ask for TSA accommodations in US airport so you can get there later and don't spend as much time inside. Not sure if Bahamas would offer the same, but worth a shot. Finally xlear in the nose before entering, during each mask change and throughout the flight helps me. Along with children's small dose of Sudafed and Advil ,20 mins prior to boarding to help with barometric pressure changes as I'm way more sensitive to mold when that's going on.

N95 and KN95 masks help minimize reaction time for me, but after 20 minutes or so, a lot of my reactions start. Keep in mind mold spores still get into your eyes and from there, affect your system. Also N95s and KN95s don't fully block or stop mold spores. He'd need to wear a full-on respirator mask for protection. I personally (for me) would avoid going through that airport over wearing a full respirator mask. And, a reminder that every exposure can set one back, significantly.

Wish I had an answer. But curious do you know of a clean place to stay?! I’m just chiming in to say I feel like I’d be more concerned about finding a mold free place to stay for the vacation

In addition to that, you could try a mold nosode to try to calm his body’s reaction to the mold. As an example, my daughter had a class last semester that she knew was in a moldy classroom (because her vision was wonky the first time she walked in there, that’s her mold tell) but she had to take the class and this was the only room it was offered in, so she used a professional formulas nosode to help mitigate the impact it had on her. She used the dust and mold one, but there are a few to choose from

I always get sick when I travel unless I wear a N95. It's the only time I mask. The ones with an CO2 port are best and they're more comfortable if they wrap around the head rather than hanging off your ears. I like these: https://a.co/d/067UbkYN AMAZON.COM 3M N95 Respirator 8511, Cool Flow Valve, 10 Pack, NIOSH-APPROVED, Advanced Filter Media For Easy Breathing, Comfortable For Long Periods Of Wear, Helps Filter Pollen, Mold Spores & Dust (8511PB1-A-PS)

We have worn N95 or KN95 from pandemic times to now from the moment we step foot in airport until we step out of next airport and 1) we never get sick and 2) yes it helps with mold.

No masks do not work

Masks help me. These are the kind we order and I will say they are bearable. We didn’t wear masks during Covid, but I wear them now to limit exposure as I heal from CIRS. https://wellbefore.com/.../kids-petite-faces-kn95-3d... Hi can i ask you about healing your son from mold and lyme. That's what my 11 year old is being treated for now and it's been a hard thing to navigate. Would love to hear what you thought was the successful treatment that healed him. Thanks!

Immediate decon as soon as you get out of airport and to your destination. Clothes off, in a washer or if you don’t have one available then double bagged and kept away.. and full body showers for everyone.. so you don’t bring the contamination into the room with you. Learning decon strategies has helped me immensely. I feel like if you have gotten clear of mold and are less reactive now you should be able to take a “small” hit and decon and not continue to have the effect happening.

Just so you know, if you’re thinking of staying at the Atlantis resort, there’s an area of accommodations (I can’t remember if it’s the Coral or the Royal), that has mold.

Yes I had severe MCS and a charcoal mask under a thick and well-sealed N95 was my usual setup. Helped a ton.

I never wore a mask during Covid, but I had to enter a water damaged building with toxic mold for an eye appt the other day. I wore an N95 mask and I was able to be inside the building 15 minutes with no symptoms (mine usually start in 2-3 minutes) and had to leave around 25 minutes. I came home, took a shower and changed clothes, took binders and did not crash as I normally would. I did have a pretty bad headache and my lungs burned all night, but the mask did help so much. I think it’s worth giving it a try if it means going in a really fun vacation.

Pack a mesh nebulizer

I think that depending on the individual, what they're sensitive to, and their level of illness/inflammation would determine whether masks help. That said, I'd think something would be more helpful than nothing. I would never put a P100 respirator on a child, and a N95 (any mask) is only is good as it fits (I don't see an adult N95 fitting a 5 year old). I think Cambridge PRO Masks claim to protect similarly to N95s (see description on their website), and I'd think they would likely mitigate actually breathing in spores settled on dust carried through the air. They make small/child size masks (measure face and look at their chart for sizing) that are comfortable and easy to breathe through, especially models with the vent. I would test a couple different masks prior to traveling. Good luck and I hope you get to go on your trip!

N95 helped me with sensitivity to smells
