Struggling to Find a Mold-Free Hotel While Also Dealing with Bed Bugs

I’m feeling traumatized at this point. Not only do I need to find a hotel or space that is free of mold, fragrance, etc but now I’ve encountered either bed bug or signs of bed bug at the hotels that I’ve stayed at while trying to avoid mold. We have been without a home for 1.5 years after losing everything to mold and now this is just another big stressor. Its raken so much energy, time, and distress trying to find a place i can stay at that wont activate the health issues ice developed at severe mold illness and now i have to worry about this! These bb issues have been at an embassy suites, tru by Hilton and a fairly new boutique hotel. I’m at a loss of how to move forward but even more time sensitive how to have a roof over our heads tonight and the immediate future. Can anyone else relate or have any guidance?

I went back in mold but in less mold but thats not an advice. We were exausted, waisted money on hotels that were worse. Here you pay in advance and you loose the money. It was a hell of a year.

Is there a chance that the trauma (which is real) is causing a hyper-sensitivity/paranoid OCD type spiral for you? I ask this from a place of understanding not as critique. The anxiety can upswing our nervous system and make us think we are reacting to our environment, when it is our internal environment (anxiety) that is producing reactions. Other times, I know, it is mold or other. When I healed was when I accepted that no place wld be perfect and focused on my nervous system’s response. But that takes a feeling of safety in my own body first. Not sure if this is helpful— but perhaps getting to a place (even if it means camping) where you can relax internally and reset your fight or flight for a bit.

Yes, I can relate. The last hotel I stayed in had mold and really impacted me emotionally and physically. I had an air filter but still it was rough. I was displaced last year for 3 months and found 1 hotel and 1 Airbnb that were safe. We finally moved to a newly constructed townhouse and had to cope with all of the VOCs. It’s been a very hard year so I feel your pain.

We bought an RV to use for traveling and we use it to visit places with nice weather and clean air. We really like it. Obviously RVs can still have mold and off gas so it's best to get them professionally tested first.

I can relate. Traumatizing doesn't even feel like it covers what we go through. It's also very isolating as the only people who are sick with similar illness truly understand the gravity (and hell, sometimes I've even encountered people like me who still don't get it). People just don't get it and it's so much energy and emotional labor attempting to explain it. I know for me it comes down to, there's really nothing anyone can do for me and I need integrative healthcare, financial support, housing stability, and all these things that are so very basic of needs but it feels so completely out of reach. It truly feels like I was not meant for this world And often find myself wishing I wasn't here.

Girl, I feel you right now and have been there many times. How you feel is 100% validated and the experience is awful and unfair. Sending you strength - take it minute by minute

I would learn to camp really really well. Find a great place with fresh clean air that has access to showers and power when needed. At first it's hard to accept that as a loving situation but as you begin to feel better, you learn to love it and appreciate it as an option. Plus, the nature of living outside creates the perfect situation to heal instead of constant reexposure.
