Mold-safe hotel recommendations for a Las Vegas trip

  Vdara is where we stay. They don’t have a casino but are connected to Bellagio and they have the hypoallergenic rooms with air purifiers and no smells. I do very well there

  I can’t speak on MGM hotels specifically but I do veryyyy well at the Home2 Suites Convention Center and the Home2 Suites i25 location. Both Hilton properties. They also just finished a Home2 in Henderson but it will still be offgassing. The Hilton Resorts World property is also new and I’ve heard great reports. Hope it’s a successful trip! If you need fresh air, Red Rocks is lovely for grounding.

  Never been to MGM grand but i did really well at the Palazzo a couple yrs back. I did good at the Wynn EXCEPT for having to walk through the smokey casino to go up to the room-that part was not fun. I actually did great at Mandalay Bay but it depends on your level of tolerance bc that one was a bit old and it did have a minor smell. But for some reason I did well. (Fyi they tried to put us in their sister building (forgot name) at first but it has frgrance through the HVAC.

  Im curious-esp bc I went through a severe flare recently-does anyone here find that taking claritin or benedryl helps calm your flare? Bc when I started taking it daily i noticed the flare went down more quickly.

  Fontainebleau Las Vegas is newest hotel on strip. I stayed here and did well. Let them know ahead of time of concerns and they did an allergy cleaning.

  Home2suites a few blocks away I did good in. We had a stay2play for my sons baseball at Excalibur and had to flee after 45 min. I’ve never felt more terrible in such a short amount of time. You can search my name for the exact Home2suites. It won’t help you with the pool situation, but your family will feel ok!

  I do not think mgm is great, I could stay there and possibly could survive a night with my pans/ pandas girl but if I had a choice I’d pick the newest hotel as well - so tough

  This is a great post! I’m staying in Vegas in December, we booked at the Grandview across from South Point…after reading these suggestions I might switch I almost picked MGM!

  The restored rooms dont have mold mycotoxins but the common areas including the pool do. With yout families sensitivities I would make other arrangements. I understand because our family goes through this as well.

  Home2Suites on Dean Martin Dr. My son plays travel ball and I cannot stay in the team hotels they are disgusting. . You gotta prioritize your health. The team all knows my issues and they understand and support my special needs. They can’t force you to stay somewhere that makes you sick.

  One of us recently stayed at the Otonomus (off Strip on Russell) and said she did really well there. It's a non-smoking property that was built in 2025. It offers apartment-style suites, meaning there's a kitchen and the windows open. I think she said there was a balcony. It's listed at $110 a night today ... but when I tried to go there last minute, they wanted $400. Maybe they only had penthouses left? Who knows. My sister stayed at either the Vdara or the Aria in 2023, those two along with the Cosmopolitan are grouped together down by the Strip. They were built between 2009-2010, so they're not new. I felt relatively okay in her room (I did not spend the night) and walking around in those buildings. There was some smoke and fragrance as with most Strip hotels. I've stayed in Mandalay Bay and the Luxor. Mandalay Bay is newer/nicer than the Luxor, but I actually did better at the Luxor because Mandalay Bay was more fragrant. Here's your great big disclaimer on that: The Luxor is an older property with a bad reputation for people like us. The first room they gave me was on the 14th floor. As soon as the elevator door opened on that floor, I knew it was a hard no. They moved me to a room on the first floor (usually a terrible place for people like us to be). It was "good enough." Meaning I tolerated it for two nights. So, no, I'm not recommending either place. I'm more pointing out that switching rooms is sometimes good enough. The Park MGM is non-smoking, but was built in 1996.

  This may not be ideal, but could you arrive at MGM and sniff out the place and do a room tour, and if it doesn’t work, stay at one of the places mentioned here on this thread. It does put you in a vulnerable spot if you don’t have something locked in. This is what I do and it’s helped me avoid problems with moldy rooms.

  Google las vegas floods and MGM Grand. While it does not appear that there have been any local floods that have impacted the MGM, there was a fire back in the 1970's. Another option is to google "MGM Grand reviews" and "mold_

  I haven’t been but I know the strip flooded sometime roughly a year or more ago. I don’t know exactly where or details but you can find articles on it. That’s probably why you don’t do well there.

  Very interesting post and comments. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Desert Club resort and did great! It's by the sphere. Earlier this year we stayed at the MGM Grand and I thought I was going to die. I think i was also herxing from my Lyme, Bartonella and Babesia treatment so I cannot honestly say it was 100% mold.

  Im VERRYYYYY sensitive and we stayed at The Venetian South tower. I think it was 22nd floor. I’m mad I can’t remember the exact room.

  I don't mean to complicate this even more, but the temperature will likely be 105-110° or higher. I haven't checked the forecast. That makes it hard to leave any windows open for fresh air. The city was built to flood, intentionally. The area around the Linq floods regularly due to it being on the Flamingo Wash, I believe. You can search for Las Vegas flooding and many hits will come up. If it rains any appreciable amount for more than a day, it usually floods with water coming in through the roofs (rooves?) as well as the street at lower levels of the Strip around the Linq. Planet Hollywood was very bad a few years ago. Circa (downtown) had a bad incident. I wish you the best.

  I stayed at MGM and did ok. No issues. Another option is the Marriott Grand Chateau. It is connected to the MGM.

  T.S. do any of these Home 2 Suites not have carpet? All the ones I have checked out do. Carpet traps mold spores, I can’t tolerate it.

  If you really can’t afford to flare you shouldn’t go But living in fear and staying frozen is also a large part of what feeds us being so reactive. So you take your chances.

  Fontainebleau is the newest hotel on the strip so that would be my first choice. It’s been long enough a lot of the off gassing from the new materials should be better. Chance of mold is decreased because it’s so new. Durango Casino is a new casino off strip. I moved to Vegas to escape mold and love it. Feeling much better here!! I’ve gone into Fontainebleau and Durango with no issues at all. I haven’t slept there but I’ll go for the events. I definitely react in the older casinos like circus circus the flamingo.

  Don't stay on the strip if you are very sensitive: Stay in Summerlin and travel to the strip if you have to be there. The air isn't good there and the strip floods so many hotels are bad. And MGM is old.

  MGM is an old hotel/casino. I would try to pick a new construction hotel even if you have to drive off of the strip. The last thing you want is an exposure that ruins your trip.

  Have you looked into Air BnBs? I have no personal experience with them, but you might be able to find something without carpeting and possibly mold aware owners. Just a thought.

  EDIT: AVOID! These have very bad reviews, some that mention mold. There's also the Signature MGM that's attached to the MGM. They are condos and newer, I believe. I don't know if they have carpeting.

  I feel you , dance mom and dance teacher /owner here . It’s really hard traveling . I will say the Venetian last year was pretty good if that’s an option , but the ballrooms were not especially the rooms on the lower levels . (I swell and it’s very noticeable ) Get outside as much as possible . Hugs I know it’s hard trying to make memories while feeling like crap

  A dance convention. I was pro dancer, teacher and choreographer before I was poisoned by toxic mold. Definitely look for the newest building you can find (hotel or airbnb) and stay there. I would avoid any place that is more than 1-2 yrs old because of the HVAC system and general cleanliness. And of course ask if they have carpet-free rooms etc. Take natural anti-inflammatories daily (like Bromelain or high quaity turmeric/curcumin). Good luck!

  As someone who lived in LV for over a decade…. the mold and dampness is so awful at MGM. I’m a freelancer and anytime I work there, it takes me out.
